PROJECT NAME:
Family Foundation Strategic Plan

CLIENT:
The Clement Isong Foundation (TCIF)

LOCATION:
Nigeria

The Clement Isong Foundation was founded in 2006 to honour Dr. Clement Isong’s life work. The Foundation seeks to promote the values espoused by Clement Isong throughout his public life and devotion to public service.

The strategic plan project aimed to help TCIF define a structure that would help the foundation set an ambition for future operations as an NGO. The primary purpose was to connect the mission and vision with ideas that could be developed into programmes and projects to be implemented within the next four years.

In this intervention, Proleap Consulting, led by Dr Okoroba, conducted a scoping exercise to identify operational gaps using an organisational capacity assessment tool. Staff’s individual capacity gaps were also assessed. Based on the gaps identified through the pre-training interview sessions, a two-day training was designed. The training, which was customised to the manpower needs identified, was delivered in Uyo in November 2019.

This strategy report documents our engagement so far and concludes our intervention for this phase. It is a preliminary report that presents the staff capacity assessment reports, a proposal for the foundation’s sustainability, and an initiative to be considered for implementation in the next four years.

Foundations don’t work in a vacuum; they need to find out what other nonprofits, government agencies, businesses, and grantmakers are doing or planning to do to address the prevailing social problems. Building a network and mapping donors should begin from personal and professional, but it must expand to functional to be sustainable.

Within Akwa Ibom state, in Nigeria, where TCIF has been operational since its inception, there are NGOs that are functional in social development causes. Some of them work in thematic focus areas similar to those adopted by TCIFs in her programming. Beyond Akwa-Ibom state, civil society organisations work in capacity building and advocacy for public policy and development issues, which TCIF seeks to address.
